  • Fairtrade Fortnight 2018

Mon 26 Feb 2018 Mrs McKenna

The School Council have been learning about Fairtrade and are planning to get Rushcroft involved in Fairtrade Fortnight which runs from Monday 26th February until 9th March 2018.

As well as learning about Fairtrade in class, the councillors have selected some pocket money products from Fairtrade organisations for the children to buy.  The people who make these toys have all been paid a fair wage for their work.  These products, costing between 50p and £3.50, will be available for all children to buy at playtime on the following days unless our stock runs out:

    Monday 26th February

    Tuesday 27th February

    Thursday 1stMarch

    Friday 2nd March

    Monday 5th March

    Tuesday 6th March

    Thursday 8th March

    Friday 9th March

Our school kitchen are also serving Fairtrade produce: jam, bananas, oranges, hot chocolate and tea at breakfast club during Fairtrade Fortnight from 8.30am.  This is another way we can support Fairtrade Producers.

Thank you for your continued support.

  • Another Thank You

Mon 11 Dec 2017 Mr Coyle

    Foodbank Appeal

Thank you once again to the Rushcroft community who managed to bring in so much food which we will forward on to Foodbank Oldham. As you can see from the picture, there were ten boxes full of lots of useful items: rice, rice pudding, chopped tomatoes, pasta, pasta sauce, sugar and milk. Thank you too to the school council for promoting the appeal and to Mrs Jennings who will be transporting all the boxes to the offices in Oldham town centre.

  • Thank You

Thu 16 Nov 2017 Mr Coyle
A big thank you to all the children who brought back their sponsor money and forms last week. We managed to raise over £1700 which is a fantastic achievement. An extra thank you to Ewan and Frankie who each raised over £100. Well done everyone!
  • Pumpkin Competition

Fri 27 Oct 2017 Mr Coyle
Once again, the children and parents astonished us with their creativity. On Friday afternoon, the hall was full of the most amazing pumpkin creations. Mrs Jennings and the school council had an almost impossible job choosing a winner from each class but in the end, they went for the very talented children in the picture below. Well done everyone who took part.

  • Rushcroft's Got Talent

Thu 20 Jul 2017 Mr Coyle

It wouldn't be the end of the school year without our annual talent show, Rushcroft's Got Talent. The children have spent the past fortnight practising and auditioning until we narrowed it down to two entries from each class.

The show itself was amazing. We were treated to super singing, football skills, thunderous drumming, guitar playing, Harry Potter spells, cartwheels galore and some very groovy dance moves.

We're immensely proud of everybody who made it through but a particular well done to our winners:

    Foundation Stage/Key Stage One Winner:

Erin, Leoni, Hannah & Lucia (dancing to Little Mix)

    Key Stage Two Joint Winners:

Mac Walsh (singing "Castle on the Hill")

Lexi, Olivia & Evie (The Unicorn Poppers)

  • Engineering Competition

Fri 07 Jul 2017 Mr Coyle

At the turn of the year, the whole school entered an engineering competition where children were asked to invent something to overcome a problem. This was a competition open to all schools in the north-west so competition was fierce. We are delighted to announce that Rushcroft had an overall winner in Year 3 and an overall winner in Year 6.  We also had a runner-up in Year 4. Our two winners won two magnificent trophies and our runner-up was given a special certificate. We also had lots of children who were shortlisted and whose work has been put on display as part of a public exhibition at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Well done everyone!

Update: we have been sent more pictures of the awards ceremony which can be seen at the link below:

  • Breakfast Club

Fri 17 Mar 2017 Mr Coyle

Following our Fairtrade fortnight, our breakfast club will now be selling apple juice, orange juice, hot chocolate, bananas and jam from Fairtrade suppliers.

We would like to thank Emma for agreeing to do this and helping our children understand even more why it matters where food comes from.
