Easter Disco
Our Easter Disco was a fantastic celebration filled with music, dancing and lots of smiles! The children had a wonderful time showing off their best dance moves and enjoying the party atmosphere with their friends. A big thank you to our amazing PTA who organised the event and made it such a special occasion for the children. We hope everyone had an egg-cellent time!
Year 4 Writers
Year 4 have been busy writing some fantastic descriptive narratives inspired by Beowulf. The children worked hard to create exciting settings, powerful characters and dramatic moments in their stories. To celebrate their work, Year 4 shared their narratives with Year 5, reading them aloud and showcasing their brilliant writing. It was wonderful to see the children so proud of their work and confidently sharing their ideas with others.

Celebrating Our Reading Stars!
A huge well done to the children who won our Reading Raffle! Reading regularly at home is so important and the more children read at home, the more raffle tickets they earn. It’s wonderful to see so many children developing great reading habits and a love of books.
We’d also like to give a big congratulations to our Golden Coin Week winners These children have made an outstanding amount of progress in their reading this term. Their hard work, determination and enthusiasm to improve have really stood out. We are incredibly proud of all of our readers – keep up the fantastic effort!
Woodwind Performance
On Monday we were delighted to welcome our Woodwind Group to perform in assembly - and what a fantastic performance it was! The children enjoyed listening to the beautiful sound of clarinets, played by pupils who have only started learning this year – what an amazing achievement! We were also treated to performances from our more experienced flute and clarinet players, who have been developing their skills over time. It was a real musical treat for everyone and we are so proud of all the children for their confidence, effort and progress. Well done, Woodwind Group!
International Day of Happiness
Last Friday, we celebrated International Day of Happiness across our school - and what a wonderful day it was! A big thank you to our amazing Wellbeing Champions, who did a fantastic job promoting happiness through fun and engaging activities on the playground. From games to sharing smiles, they helped create a positive and uplifting atmosphere for everyone. It was lovely to see so many children joining in, supporting one another, and spreading kindness throughout the day.
Red Nose Day 2026
What an amazing day we’ve had celebrating Red Nose Day! The children looked fantastic in their splash of red, with their red noses and wonderfully wild, crazy hair bringing lots of smiles and laughter to school.

Year 3 Writing
Our amazing Year 3 children have been working hard writing their own play scripts inspired by Roald Dahl’s The Twits! They took their learning outdoors and brought their stories to life with some fantastic performances. We’re so proud of their creativity, teamwork and confidence
Great British Spring Clean
Our amazing Planet Protectors have been busy helping our community by taking part in the Great British Spring Clean! The children worked hard to remove litter from our local area, helping to make our community cleaner, greener and safer for everyone. We are so proud of their enthusiasm and commitment to looking after our planet. You are wonderful role models and you have truly made a difference!
Girls' Football
A huge well done to our fantastic football team who showed incredible determination and teamwork on Friday! Despite the horrendous weather, the children braved the wind and rain, giving it their all from start to finish. Their effort, resilience and positive attitude made us all incredibly proud. You represented the school brilliantly and truly did Rushcroft proud!
Biodiversity Enrichment Day
On Friday, our school enjoyed a fantastic Biodiversity Enrichment Day, with every class taking part in activities to learn about how living things depend on each other and how we can care for our environment.
Reception went on a minibeast hunt and built bug houses using natural materials. Year 1 & 2 learned about the importance of plants, planted seeds and made fruit salads using fruits that grow on plants. Year 3 explored the web of life, carried out a site survey and designed their own biodiverse space. Year 4 investigated the role of pollinators and created posters asking for more pollinator-friendly plants around school. While Year 5 and 6 explored why biodiversity is important for healthy ecosystems, planted potatoes and wildflowers, learned about invasive species and investigated worms.
It was a brilliant day of learning, exploring and thinking about how we can all help protect our planet!

Victory on the Pitch!
Our school football team had a fantastic win in their match on Friday! Every player gave their best, showing great teamwork, determination and sportsmanship. A huge well done to all the players - you made us so proud!
World Book Day 2026
This year our focus was vocabulary, with children across the school exploring vocabulary through stories, drama, role play and creative book activities. Our Book Swap Bonanza was a huge success, with children excitedly swapping books and discovering new stories to enjoy. A brilliant day celebrating reading.
Year 6 Writing
Our budding Year 6 authors have been crafting some truly impressive detective stories, full of mystery, suspense and clever twists. The excitement didn’t stop there - these stories were shared with a real-life police officer, who was absolutely amazed by the creativity and talent on display!
Year 4 visit the Royal Armouries
Year 4 had an incredible trip to the Royal Armouries in Leeds! Our young adventurers explored history hands-on through two amazing workshops. In the first workshop, they became archaeologists, uncovering treasures from Anglo-Saxon times . Then, they were captivated by a dramatic storytelling session of Beowulf, bringing the legendary hero and his adventures to life! A big well done to all our Year 4 children for their curiosity, enthusiasm and brilliant teamwork.
World Thinking Day
A day where we express thanks for our community of Scouts and Guides from around the world.
myHappymind
Before the half term break, the children completed the Celebrate unit of myHappymind. To further embed this learning, myHappymind has developed a Parent App. These resources can be accessed online on your computer, or through an app on your phone. The authentication code has previously been sent to your emails and is also written in the children's diaries. Our unit this term is Appreciate
Pancake Flipping Event
On Friday our children had an absolutely wonderful time at our Pancake Flip event! From the first toss to the final flip, there were smiles, laughter and plenty of impressive pancake flipping skills on display. No matter the outcome, every child showed great enthusiasm and confidence. Well done to all our amazing pancake flippers!
Our Year 6 Writers
Our brilliant writers are at it again! This week, our talented Year 6 children proudly shared their powerful natural disaster stories with our Year 5 pupils. Their writing was full of drama, detail and imagination
It was wonderful to see our older pupils reading with such confidence and expression, inspiring the younger children with their creativity and storytelling skills. We are so proud of the effort and enthusiasm shown by everyone involved. What fantastic young authors we have at our school!
Valentine's Tuck Shop
Our School Councillors hosted a special Valentine’s Tuck Shop today and it was a HUGE success! We’re so proud of our councillors for their hard work, teamwork and brilliant organisation Thank you to everyone who supported and made it such a fantastic event!
Children's Mental Health Week
This week, our children have been proudly taking part in a range of activities led by our Wellbeing Champions, all inspired by this year’s theme, “This Is My Place.”
The children explored what makes our school a place where they feel safe, valued, and happy. One of the activities was creating their own “happy place”, designing and sharing spaces (real or imagined) where they feel calm, confident, and completely themselves.
National Storytelling Week
What a fantastic week we’ve had celebrating Storytelling Week across the school! The children threw themselves into a wonderful range of storytelling activities and showed just how magical stories can be. Some classes brought in and shared their favourite books from home, while others were introduced to a new author each day, sparking lots of curiosity and excitement about reading. Our Year 5 children worked collaboratively to tell different parts of a story, bringing it together in a truly creative way. Thank you for your continued support promoting a love of reading at home and in school.
A Rowing Success!
We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 pupils who represented Rushcroft at a rowing competition on Tuesday - and what a performance it was!
The team did absolutely brilliantly, with some outstanding results:

These amazing achievements are a real credit to the children’s hard work, teamwork and determination. We couldn’t be happier with their oar-inspiring efforts and success! A huge well done to everyone involved. You represented Rushcroft superbly.
Year 3 Myth Magic!
Last week, our amazing Year 3 children proudly shared their myth writing with Year 6 - and wow! The stories were imaginative, creative and confidently presented. Year 6 were fantastic listeners and gave some brilliant encouragement too. We’re so proud of our young authors and the wonderful learning shared across year groups!
RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch
Our Planet Protectors have been busy making apple bird feeders to help encourage a wider variety of birds into our environment and to provide them with a natural, high-energy food source. This activity was part of our preparation for the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.
Dodgeball Victory
We came. We dodged. We conquered. Our dodgeball team brought the focus and the teamwork on Tuesday - and it paid off with a tournament victory! We couldn’t be prouder of this group.
Mayoral Visit
Our School Councillors had a very special visit to the Mayor in his new Mayoral Chambers. The children impressed us all with their insightful questions, enjoyed a guided tour of the new facilities and even had the chance to relax with a drink and a biscuit in the Mayor’s office. A huge thank you to Mayor Moores and the Mayoress for being such wonderful hosts and for making the children feel so welcome.
