Art
This half term our Art topic has been sculptures and we have particularly focused on clay sculptures. We have linked our learning to Africa and learned how sculptures are a significant part of African tradition. Masks are used for various reasons such as weddings, storytelling, ceremonies and rituals.
We explored a range of different masks before designing, sculpting and painted our very own. We learned techniques like pitting, pinching and scoring. We loved creating our final pieces!
Geography
As Geographers in Redgrave's we are learning all about a small country in Africa, Sierra Leone. We have used our map skills to locate Africa, Sierra Leone and it's captial Feetown using a range of maps, atlases and globes.
We have continued learning about Freetown and African culture. We named geographical features and compared human and physical features in both Oldham and Freetown. We also traveled 11 hours all the way to Africa to explore traditional African food, clothing and lifestyle.
