Division

Division

The Stages of Calculation are designed to provide a structured and consistent approach to teaching and learning around division. Division is introduced as one of the fundamental arithmetic operations, building upon the concepts of addition and subtraction. The division process is divided into several stages to help young learners understand and master this operation. Initially, students are taught the concept of equal sharing, where they learn to divide a given quantity into equal groups. They start by dividing concrete objects or counters into groups and progress to solving simple division problems using numbers. As they advance, they learn to interpret division as the inverse operation of multiplication and solve division equations using basic facts and strategies such as skip counting or repeated subtraction. Additionally, students are introduced to remainders and learn to interpret them within the context of real-life situations. These division stages lay the foundation for more complex mathematical concepts and problem-solving skills to be applied.
