Year 4 Educational Visit to Castleshaw
Year 4 had a fantastic day stepping back in time at Castleshaw! They amazed the leaders with their brilliant Roman knowledge and furthered their learning about how and why the Romans came to Britain.
The children became archaeologists, carefully investigating different artefacts and deciding whether they were Roman or not. Then it was time to head outside, where Year 4 became trainees in the Roman army and discovered what life might have been like for a Roman soldier!
In the afternoon, the children switched sides and charged up the hill like Barbarians towards the Roman fort! Once there, they put their map-reading skills to the test with a scavenger hunt around the site.
It was a brilliant day filled with history, exploration and lots of hands-on learning.

Gruffalo Granny Live Reading by Julia Donaldson
Redgraves and MacArthurs had a fantastic time enjoying a live reading of the brand-new story Gruffalo Granny by Julia Donaldson!
As if hearing the new story wasn’t exciting enough, the children also had the opportunity to draw along with the wonderful illustrator Axel Scheffler, following his guidance to create their own illustrations.
The children were completely engaged and thoroughly enjoyed this special reading experience. What a wonderful way to bring stories, illustrations and a love of reading to life!
