Year 5 Football Tournament
Our Year 5 team took part in a football tournament at Crompton House tonight and topped their group, winning all three matches. This puts us into the all-Oldham finals.
The boys played some sparkling football throughout the tournament: Joe made some brilliant one-on-one saves, Muaiz and Adam were rocks in defence, Ashley, James and Ellis all worked tirelessly in midfield and Tom and Logan never stopped running up front.
It was so pleasing to see all the boys learn their roles very quickly which meant that they functioned really effectively as a team.

Some of the players wrote this report in their writing lessons:
On Wednesday 16th September at 3.30pm the Rushcroft year 5 football team played in the Crompton House tournament. We competed against Royton Hall, Freehold Primary and Crompton Primary.
The brilliant Rushcroft team were Joe T in net, Adam R and Muaiz in defence, Wings Tom M and Ellis V, mid field James F and strikers Ashley D and Logan P.
Nervous and pumped up the team, who were giving Royton hall a good match, beat them 3-0. The first goal of the tournament was as a result of James’ unfortunate injury, which turned out superbly, when Ellis V scored a lucky penalty. For the second goal James passed to Ashley putting the ball into the net. Last but not least, Logan, almost in slow motion, sent the ball into the back of the net.
After a few minutes our team was into its second match. Within seconds Tom M, who was substitute for the tournament, back heeled an ultimate pass to Ashley who scored a fantastic goal! Ellis V set up a lucky goal for James’ phenomenal overhead kick. In the last five minutes Logan pelted the blue and white ball into the back of the net. Freehold, who were a really strong team, lost against us in the last but toughest match. Up to the final countdown Joe T (AKA: Joe Hart), the goal keeper, had a clean sheet and Muaiz and Adam were like a brick wall in defence! Unfortunately their striker managed to score from a powerful shot.
At the end the teams assembled in the middle of the pitch. To sum up, in fourth place was Crompton Primary, third Royton Hall, second place was Freehold and finally first place was….Rushcroft! We felt victorious and Mr. Coyle was ecstatic.
