Working hard all week in Year 1

The children in Year 1 are settling in to classroom life very well- remember they are studying new subjects in some cases, and their weeks are very full now- more than previously in Reception class, where the curriculum is play-based. Take a look at our very bus week...

In Maths this week we have been describing 2D and 3D shapes according to their properties. This fits in very well with our work about senses- the children were describing hidden shapes to their groups using correct mathematical language. In Music this week we have been using percussion instruments to accompany our singing, the children have learnt to play the instruments to a beat, and just as importantly to keep them quiet when it isn't their turn to play- a skill they will need in their band lessons in key stage 2...

In our handwriting lessons we are focusing on the correct formation of our letters- for some children this is very tricky but we are keeping trying!

We finished the week off with a well earned reward for a complete week of lessons.... hopefully the children enjoyed all these new subjects and they aren't noticing the disappearance of their play based work. The children's reward was toast time!
