Before Christmas we made some Christmas trees with Mrs Banham, we also designed some French shoes and the next day they all had sweets in them! We also created chatterboxes/fortune tellers using the 3,4, and 8 times tables and tested each other. This year we have made foldable metre rulers and used them to estimate and measure items around the classroom, including legs and arms! What a creative class. Happy 2017.
We've had a really pleasant start to the new term and are all raring to learn lots and have some fun on the way. Our next times tables are the 7x tables so visit this page on our website to help you out:
If your parents allow you to go on Youtube, here is a link to a video version of the Hamelin story we'l be studying this week. It stars Mickey Mouse!
This week in science we made a model of the solar system. We used a different fruit to represent each of the eight planets. We used a peppercorn, a melon, a cherry tomato, an apple, a lime, a grapefruit, a raspberry and a blueberry. The hardest part was deciding which fruit to use for which planet until we looked at the smallest and largest diameters from our data research.
The solar system looked like this:
Mercury - peppercorn
Venus - cherry tomato
Earth - raspberry
Mars - blueberry
Jupiter - melon
Saturn - grapefruit
Uranus - apple
Neptune - lime
We then ate Jupiter, which was very juicy!
