Year 5 have been investigating multiples, factors and prime number this week. We enjoyed using practical resources to find factors of numbers and then identified which numbers are prime numbers. We also did some excellent work on our marketing campaigns. We began story-boarding a television advert for a holiday destination, see an example of our iPad work below. The children came up with some excellent advertisements and look forward to creating a filmed advert for a holiday to outer space next week!
We have been learning about 3d shapes this week and enjoyed getting out the Clixi and shape boxes to help us work out the properties of shapes. We also made nets of various cuboids and shapes with no names which was fun. By the way Year 6, as you were so amazed by my rotating octahedron, here is a link to the wikipedia page that I found it at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Octahedron.gif
We've been doing assessments as well this week and overall, everyone tried their best and have shown a lot of progress since September.
In year 4 this week we have been looking at chronological reports and have started writing a recount about George Mallory and Andrew Irvine, who died whilst trying to climb Mount Everest in 1924. In Maths, we have continued looking at measures and have been converting between mm, cm, m and km. We found it pretty tricky to start with, but we are getting there! In Science, we have been looking at changes of state. We investigated the temperatures of different bowls of water using thermometers and also observed a snowman turn from a solid to a liquid. Check out our photos below.
