For the first time in at least 15 years, Rushcroft have won the football league which comprises all the schools in Shaw, Crompton and Royton.
Having topped our league group, we were paired with Thornham in the final.
Both teams played some good football in the first half and we missed two or three excellent chances to score. Unfortunately, Thornham took their first chance and made it 1-0. However, we went straight up the other end and equalised through Kyle.
In the second half, we made some excellent chances again but couldn't finish them off; Thornham were less wasteful and with two minutes to go were 3-1 up. All looked lost until Adam turned one in from an excellent cross from Taylor and then a corner on full-time resulted in a scramble which led to Adam poking the ball home to make the score 3-3 at full time.
The game then went to penalties.
Our keeper Ben made a great first save; Tom scored our first; they hit the bar with their second; Adam scored our second, meaning that we won the game and the league.
The team have now played 12 matches and not lost in any of them. They have won the Crompton House football tournament as well as the league and qualified for the final eight of the all Oldham Kids Cup. This is a magnificent achievement for our school and we ware very proud of all nine players.
